Clinton County Historical Society Museum Open

May 12, 2018

Opening Sunday, May 20

Paine-Gillam-Scott House, Swegles General Store and the Carriage House opens Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 1:00 pm. 106 Maple St., St. Johns, MI. (Westside of the Courthouse)

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. Two million young men left the farm fields and cities of America to fight this awful war in the muddy trenches of France. It was a fast changing world and this war was fought like none other before. Thousands of horses were still being used but mostly for hauling equipment and supplies to the front lines. Tanks, machine guns and trench warfare were replacing the cavalry charge.

Our featured exhibit for 2018 will honor those brave young Clinton County men who fought and died in that bloody war. We would welcome any photos, letters or other artifacts that would help us reach that goal.

Did you know that women were allowed, for the first time, to enlist in the military during WWI and thousands responded to the call to duty and served as clerical workers, telephone operators, nurses and other non-combat roles.

Our regular hours are Wednesdays, 2:00 pm – 6:30 pm and Sundays, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. We are closed holiday weekends. For further information call 989-224-2894 or email pgsmuseum@hotmail.com.
